Rina Spina's Block #9 Yankee Puzzle
"I would like to make my quilt bigger, so can you suggest some extra block patterns that I can add?
I would love four more, it will fit much better on my bed."
1) SOUTHERN MOON
The theme for the BOM was culture North & South. I looked up some designs in the new Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. I added blocks in the third edition and here is one: Southern Moon from the Alice Brooks newspaper column in 1939.
Southern Moon, #1495.3, page 175
BlockBase with all the new patterns isn't ready yet so
I had to draw it in EQ. Print this out at 8-1/2" x 11" for
templates.
2) YANKEE PUZZLE
This Yankee Puzzle is in my Civil War Sampler book. See a post here:
For a 12" block BlockBase says cut triangles from a 7-1/4" square.
3) RIGHT HAND OF FRIENDSHIP
Right Hand of Friendship by Becky Brown
Another block from the Civil War Sampler. Here's rotary cutting from BlockBase for a 12" block:
4) STRENGTH IN UNION
Strength in Union by Becky Brown
From a Chicago Tribune Nancy Cabot column.
Two pattern pieces
A = Half-square triangles cuts from 3-1/4" squares
B = Squares cut 2-7/8"
5) UNION
Union by Becky Brown
from a Ladies' Art Company design about 1890
See a post here: but it's so old that most of the pictures are gone:
12" cutting instructions from BlockBase
That's five to pick from and the Civil War Sampler book has 50 related blocks with 12" & 8" patterns.
