Ooops.

All summer my Do List has said "Bind Yankee Diary Quilt."

This week I ...
1) Remembered where I put the quilted top.
2) Remembered where I put the binding fabric.
3) Cut the binding fabric.
4) Began to trim the quilt.

And I saw the above. We had gotten to this stage in June. As I started to trim off the excess batting and backing a corner got stuck under something and I cut a big slice in the wrong spot with the rotary cutter.

I must have screamed, put it all away and forgotten the trauma.

Well, it can be fixed. (Just about anything quilt-wise can be fixed). I have put a white patch over the top, a backing patch over the backing and stitched the batting together.

And trimmed it

WITH A SCISSORS.

I hope your Yankee Diary project is going better than mine.
Next Wednesday pattern # 9. Be careful.

Argh! Just think though... some future historian will look at your quilt and say, "How clever she was to fix this and carry on". Have a great day! Hope to see you next month in Manchester.

Pooh no! I agree with Wendy though. The other part is it's nice to know others are human also - not just me. That might not make you feel any better, but it really is inspirational to "us". I love when quilts have little faux-pas that don't really affect the scheme of the overall design. Have a fabulous day.

Ouch! Sew sorry about that. I trimmed blocks with batting attached (quilt as you go type) and cut thru the batting several times (several different blocks) so I put that project away.

One time this happened to me, in a finished block that I thought it was wonderful, and I cried! My granddaughter told me: "Nonna, you have enough same fabrics so you could make another block, beautiful as this!" And I did!
Thanks God for little children!

Oh no! On the brighter side - at least it wasn't your fingers that were sliced (been there, done that - got off lightly) and you were able to fix it. Now it's a real battle quilt! ;D

Yikes--that is definitely a heart stopping event! I can totally understand putting it away and trying to forget--I think I would have done same thing. Good save though!

Well, I have a sister in misery! Yes, I have done the same thing while trimming a quilt. I did not scream (although I felt like it). I trimmed that quilt down and it's one that I doubt if anyone but me will ever realize what I did. She says quite confidently...
