Yankee Notion of the tangible kind
Our 2020 pieced block of the month begins here on January 8, 2020.
Like this mid-19th century album.
Red & white?
Late-19th-century sampler
Blue & White?
Orange & Turquoise?
66" x 87"
18" blocks set with 3" sashing
Add a 4" border to make a quilt 74" x 95"
Denniele's solids
Becky's using three prints.
For a Three-Color Quilt of 12" Blocks
You'll need 3 shades:
- 1/2 Yards
- 1-1/2 Yards
- 1-3/4 Yards
You might want to go with a traditional selection of
reproduction prints. Here are a few collections available now.
Hat Box from Andover
Each month will show a plan for a traditional block in pinks and browns---
sort of a chocolate & cinnamon version.
Yarra Valley from Max & Louise
Twelve blocks of 12". I'd guess you'd need 12 fat quarters.
Mary Koval's Rhapsody in Blue
And then there is Tula Pink's PomPoms:
I started a Facebook group YankeeNotionsBOM so we can post pictures and fabric ideas.

Dachshund pincushion
A Yankee notion probably imported from Germany

YOu are so creative! I look forward to seeing the progress of this quilt!
Oh what fun!
I'm going to try to keep up, but I may wait for the applique series! I adore the pin cushion. I'm sure Dot does too!
I do love those Rhapsody in Blues. . .I can't remember when I made a quilt with just 2 or 3 fabrics, so decided the Yankee Notions quilt in 12" blocks with patriotic fabrics would be good for the Veteran Quilt Project my group does. Size: 48" x 60". It was fun (easy) working with just 3 fabrics. Looking forward to seeing everyone's blocks and the blog starts on my grandmother and sister's birthday. . .oh, and that guy Elvis! It's really great that Barbara is doing 2 BOM's this year - pieced and applique! Woo hoo! Thanks, Barbara, for all the research and designs you offer!
And Becky does the fabulous sewing. It's a great partnership.
This looks like another great sew along and a chance to finally make a red and white quilt. Thanks Barbara and Becky for all you do.
Sounds great, off to pull some red/cream/blue 19th Century repros, possibly including a few conversationals!
Love the doxie pin cushion!! Lucky girl!
I love the red, white & blue! What would the yardage be for each color?
Indigo Gatherings from Primitive Gatherings will be out in January. That’s going to be my choice.
