Pennsylvania's Shippensburg University has an impressive textile collection: 15,000 objects (Alas, they don't mention quilts.) Their Fashion Archives and Museum with its changing exhibits looks worth a detour.
We missed a good exhibit 15 years ago: Garibaldis, Engageantes, and Cages: American Fashions of the Civil War Era but there is an online catalog.
