Stars in a Time Warp: 2015 QuiltAlong

For 2015 I'm planning a QuiltAlong here on the Civil War Quilts blog. Every Wednesday I'll post a piece in the Stars in a Time Warp series----but it won't be a pattern for a different design each week, like we have been doing the past few years.

We'll be doing the same 6" sawtooth star every week.

Vintage Variable Star or Sawtooth Star, about 1850-1880

What will change weekly is the fabric. Each post will be a lesson on reproduction fabrics in a particular style or color.

Vintage Sawtooth Star about 1870-1890.

You'll wind up with many 6" stars that you can mix or match into time warp quilts.

My stars in Turkey red repro fabrics

The fabric lessons will be based on my books America's Printed Fabrics 1770-1890 and Making History: Quilts and Fabric from 1890-1970.

This month we'll begin in the 1840-1865 period---the Civil War era--- with tips for finding authentic reproduction prints in Turkey red and Prussian blue style.

My books aren't necessary to participate but they will add to your understanding of the various fabrics. We'll start with America's Printed Fabrics, Chapter 3: The Fabric of Young America (1840-1865)

Vintage quilt with chintz alternate blocks

We'll go forward in time stitching sawtooth stars from the repro prints in your stash or on your shopping list. Because it's a time warp we can shift backwards too, exploring the days of chintz and toile.

You can make one star or more each week. By the end of the series we'll have a shower of stars to set into a quilt from mini to king-sized. I'll also give you plenty of traditional set ideas (and many new interpretations from some of the best quilters working with reproduction prints today.)

Reproduction block by Becky Brown
Becky will add her distinctive eye to the weekly posts.
Look for the first post next Wednesday January 7th. I'll still do Saturday posts as long as I continue to find information about Civil War Quilts and reproductions, so if you subscribe by email you'll get two notifications every week.

  5. Barbara, how long will the star series run? I'm doing some project planning, and wondering how many stars per month I should try to accomplish?

I am thinking all year. So far I have 49 topics. It's going to be hard to make only one star a week.

  8. Thanks Barbara! All year is great. I'll aim for 2 - 3 a week and hope for 144. If I do less, I can always increase borders and sashing ... or if by chance I do **too many** (ha.), I can also make another smaller quilt :) It gives me a range at least!

  11. I have a pattern on my to do list that is all sawtooth star blocks. How did you know I needed to decide on fabrics? This will be a gift next year for my brother and his wife who don't have a quilt in the guest room where we visit. I'm so excited to learn more from you about Civil War textiles. I hope I can part with the quilt when I'm finished...or maybe I should make two, lol.

  23. Dear Barbara, I have loved your work for so long. Learned so much from your books, articles and blogs. Since I learned about those. Have not met one of your fabrics I do not LOVE! This project sounds so informative, will be joining and tring to learn more. Heard an old interview you did with Pat Sloan recently. Enjoyed your starting out with cards and now the info is all on e-books. If I am saying that correctly. Thanks for all your hard work. I love and appreciate you. Rosie out here in Idaho

  24. Really enjoying this quilt along . . . a friend recently found a top while in Florida that has a label stating it was part of the Floroda Qult Heritage documentation project for the Museum of Florida History. It has great examples of "how they would have used the fabric." I'd like to send you pictures of it. Are you interested? Thank you for your time, Allison in Plano, Texas. allon0711@yahoo.com

  32. I've been working on stars, mostly. My dilemma is I've sewed 5 across and have 6 rows. Thinking I need sashing on the horizontal??. I plan to unsew on the horizontal for an ecru sashing. Too much without any sashing! And unsure about the border??

I am COREY RODRIGUEZ by name, CEO of protocol & shield hack Team..

we give guidelines to all of our clients as advisors to them, you don't get ripped off by fake hackers...

    POSSIBILITIES OF CLEARING CREDIT HISTORY:

A hacker cant change or clear your credit score history,
    but moderate it.

    Thus rare in most cases!!

There are three credit bureaus and literally dozens of different scores,

That carries 3 max trojan w#asβ security guide!.

    not to mention security procedures.

Honestly you might need close to 2800usd to get each tools of the security guards to get it cleared perfectly in a week without any defect later On.

But in cases of credit moderations?
The hacker can help moderate by reduction of bad performances
Your Credit Information Report (CIR) plays a large part in the loan application process and hence a lower score can impact your chances for a loan approval anywhere.

If you intend this moderation package, it will only cost a couple of tool, that sound nice right??

we also, suggest working on improving your credit as another option, which is possible, rather than going for hackers or other gimmick solutions.

If you intend MODERATION, it will cost you like I've said..

Think of it.. And let us know if you need a hire for this,

We deal with forms of cyber attacks!

  39. Hi guys, i must confess i just came across a reliable and incredible hacker who helped me track my cheating husband, you don't have to stress yourself anymore, if you have the strange feelings about your husband or wife is cheating on you, be smart enough to contact him at (Theredhackergroup@gmail.com) whatsapp/text (+1 571 318 9498) You don’t have to touch his phone or computer while you have access to his privacy/conversations ( Text Messages, Whatsapp, Facebook , IG, Snapchat, iMessage, Messenger) through the software he bought and install remotely on my phone. He also retrieved lost bitcoin from any kind of wallet, i don't know how he did this but i think he's perfect at it.Tell him Irene referred you, a trial will convince you, then you can thank me later. God bless.
